Under 14 Urquhart Trophy

U14 Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by the Dee Club)

Harris beat Lawside on penalties in an excellent final. Lawside nearly opened the scoring in the first minute and seemed to settle down more quickly. In the 23rd minute Lawside went ahead when Alan Jones scored from a free-kick which caught the keeper unawares. In the 27th minute Harris nearly equalised with a speculative 25 yard lob from Ian Petrie out on the left wing - it hit the far post and bounced back into the keeper's arms. A minute later Petrie equalised with a back header at a corner.

The second half was only two minutes old when Lawside went 2-1 up with an Alan Jones shot from 20 yards which hit the left post before nestling in the net. It only took Harris a minute to equalise when Steven Menzies ran into the box and fired past the keeper. The game was end to end, Lawside's best chance 10 minutes from time brought a good save from the Harris keeper down at the post, Harris curled a shot in the last minute inches past the far post. So to penalties, Lawside missed the first one, a great shot high to the keeper's right but Matthew Smith brought off the save of the night to turn it away at the post. Adam Coats scored for Harris, Lawside scored then Harris missed so it was 1-1 after 2 shots each. Jon Rosscraig and Steven Menzies scored their penalties to equalise Lawside's, keeper Smith saved the last Lawside penalty and Scott McComiskie won the cup for Harris with the last kick. Harris last won this trophy in 1953, the first year it was played for.
