Achievement

March 2005

This term has brought yet more sporting success to Harris Academy pupils, and has seen even more hard work, enthusiasm and enjoyment by all classes.  The PE department is working hard to ensure that in PE all pupils try their best at all times, no matter their ability or experience level.  The ethos of “give it a go” seems to be working as more and more pupils are participating, and many pupils have found that PE can be enjoyable just by trying their best

Cross Country

Ten pupils travelled to Irvine for the Scottish Schools Cross Country championships.  Elizabeth MacLeish finished 11th in group B girls and has since been selected for the Scottish Cross Country team to run in an International in Wales in April – Good Luck.

The School’s Cross Country championship was moved to Magdalen Green this year (due to refurbishments at Elliot Road) and was again a huge success.

Dundee Schools Cross Country Championships at Baxter Park on 16.3.05 was hugely successful. Harris won 5 out of 7 age group shields – all 4 boys teams won as well as the S1 girls team.  We had medallists in every race as well – well done to all competitors.

Medalists are: Andy Young 1st; Duncan McKenzie 2nd; Lizzie MacLeish 2nd; Yolanda Hodgson 2nd; Sam Kelway 3rd; Michael Heilbron 3rd; Adam Blake 3rd; Brogan McKelvie 4th; Scott McComiskie 4th.

Congratulations to Hannah Wilson, 2K10 who has been selected for the Scottish U’14 squad, and good luck for her trial for the U’15 squad.  Well done.

Football

The boys U’14 team have reached the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup.  They drew 1-1 with Notre Dame, Greenock last weekend and will travel next week to Greenock for the replay.  Good luck boys.

The S1 boys and S1/2 girls teams took part in the 1st round of the Coca Cola 7’s competition recently.  Both teams won through to the next round at Dens Park on 22nd March.  Good luck also.

Ross Clark, S6 has had an exceptional year.  Last summer he was selected for the Scottish Youth Squad and Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport.  In February he came 2nd in the Scottish Schools breaststroke event.  At the British Trials in Manchester in March he was 2nd reserve for the final at 50 m and was 7th in the 100 m breaststroke with a qualifying time for the GB team going to the European Juniors in Budapest, Hungary in July.
