In July, 2001, the site was chosen as School Site of the Week by Learning Alive.

Why did they win?
Harris Academy have succeeded in presenting a huge amount of information within an extremely well-designed website. The size of the site is such that even maintaining it is a monumental task. It’s a great achievement that the Web team - eight pupils under the direction of history teacher Dr Brindle - have done it in style, producing a well-organised and easily-navigable site.

The content is presented in several distinct parts, each large enough to be a website in its own right. There is the ‘official’ School Information section, with its prospectus, newsletters and prizegiving areas; the Departments section, where every subject is represented, including examples of students’ work and useful links; and the extra-curricular Sports section, with both inter-house and inter-school news.

However, despite the quality of these features, the Web team are most proud of their Pupil Website and Former Pupils sections.

Pupilweb reports on a range of events at the school. It is a well-maintained and much-visited area – here is where most of the schools 2000+ monthly hits are recorded! For those wishing to catch up on recent events, photo galleries in the What’s On area cover everything from S1’s Food Frenzy to the last day of the Class of ’01. Pupils make their own contributions with book reviews or poems for the books.fun club newsletter.

But students don’t stop visiting the website just because they’ve left the school, as the well-developed Former Pupils section shows. The News area contains messages from people who studied at Harris Academy back in the 1940’s – and, amazingly, Memory Lane contains photos of students and staff at the school from as long ago as 1895!

Our congratulations to the Web team on their hard work and organisation in keeping this large website fresh. We hope that the new incoming team will be able to continue and build on the excellent work of previous years!
