Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

Duke of Edinburgh gold awards were presented to 28 Harris Academy pupils last night.  They were the last "batch" to be shepherded through the scheme by PE teacher David Stibbles.  He has been scheme co-ordinator at Harris for over 30 years but retires this month after almost 40 years' service.

Academy team wins trophy

Harris Academy in Dundee has been awarded the Strathmore Trophy for computer programming and £100 of computer software.

Pupils from Tayside and Fife discovered a new way of computer programming as they took part in the competition at Dundee University's School of Computing yesterday.  They were using SCRATCH, a visual programming tool developed by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The winners from Harris Academy are Mhari Fenton, Sarah El-Wahed, Blair Fyffe and Jamie McGilchrist.  Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore donated the trophy for the competition, which is now in its 12th year.
