Pupils rewarded for good behaviour

The Discipline for Learning programme within the school aims to recognise the effort and good behaviour of the vast majority of the pupils.  On Tuesday, 23rd January, all S1 and S2 pupils who had achieved their silver awards were treated to a performance of the pantomime "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", performed by the M+M touring theatre company.

"Tuesday 23rd January 2001 saw the showing of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in the school hall for silver certificate winners. The panto was very funny and had the audience laughing from start to finish. It took place after lunch, and pupils did not know what they were about to see – contrary to popular belief, we did not see a showing of the film The Sound of Music. (It was meant to be a reward, not a punishment!)"

Remembering the Holocaust

Pupils At Harris Academy, Dundee, have been commemorating the holocaust at a series of assemblies in the school.

In the run-up to Holocaust Memorial Day, Principal Teacher of Religious and Moral Studies, Valerie Wright, has also set up an exhibition outlining the full extent of the atrocities.

Mrs Wright said that this week's events built on classroom sessions on prejudice and discrimination.

Describing the holocaust as "the worst incidence of discrimination the world has ever known," she continued, "it is not specifically about hatred of Jews, or even racism, but about intolerance and hatred of anyone perceived to be different and that is something that spills over into everyone's life."
