The Annual Prizegiving Ceremony was held in the Assembly Hall on Thursday 3rd July, 2003 before a capacity audience of pupils, former pupils, parents and guests.
The Principal Speaker, Mr John Russell, then addressed the assembly. Mr Russell has enjoyed a varied career, including a lengthy period in Teaching, and is currently the Senior Education Officer with BBC Scotland. As always, the principal speaker offered some wise advice and encouragement to the pupils. Perhaps the piece of advice that had the most immediate impact upon the prizewinners came in the form of a memory from his own days in 6th year - "don't do what I did and trip on the stairs as you come up to receive your awards". Mr Thewliss then delivered the Head Teacher's Address. (The whole address can be viewed by clicking the link above.) Mr Russell then performed the duty of awarding the prizes. A vote of thanks was proposed by the School Captains, Fiona Armstrong and Boyd Orr, and a Closing Prayer given by Rev. David Scott. As always, the ceremony ended with the Harris Holiday Song, under the direction of Ethel Fitzgerald. |
