3. What are the views of parents and carers, pupils and staff?

Only about one quarter of parents and carers who were issued with a questionnaire responded. Parents were very satisfied with most aspects of the school's work. All parents who responded thought that the school had a good reputation in the community. Almost all thought the school was well led and many believed the school's ethos nurtured pupils' self-respect and their respect for others. About half of parents who responded did not have a clear idea of the school's priorities for improving the education of pupils, and about a third wanted more information on how to support their children with homework. Almost all pupils enjoyed school, felt safe and secure, and that they were known and supported by staff. Although almost all got on well with others and few had been bullied, only half believed pupils' behaviour was good, that they were treated fairly and had a say in decisions to improve the school. They felt that teachers set high standards, provided pupils with constructive feedback and regularly celebrated pupils' success. Almost half of teachers expressed concerns about inconsistencies in dealing with indiscipline. Ancillary and support staff were very pleased with almost all aspects of the school.

Further details about what most pleased parents, carers, staff and pupils, and what they would most like to see improved, can be found in Appendix 2 of this report.
