Yusef Abubaker Memorial Football Festival
On 24th September 2007 first year pupil Yusef Abubaker tragically died while taking part in a trial for the S.1 football team. Yusef’s parents have set up a charity in his memory, and have raised an amazing amount of money which has been donated to a wide range of charities, clubs, schools and special events. To mark the anniversary of his death the school held a Sponsored Football Festival on Saturday 27th September at Elliot Road – all pupils were invited to take part and to raise money for his Charity. On Saturday over 40 pupils arrived at Elliot Road, and through their fantastic effort and attitude the day was a great success. I would like to thank all staff, parents and of course pupils who gave generously to the event – their support was the reason the event ran so well and has raised so much money for the Charity. Ailsa Luke and Christopher Anderson were awarded Most Valuable girl/boys awards, and Brendan Nicoll was awarded the best GK award. Prizes for these were donated by Clubsport. All pupils who took part were asked to pay £1 entry and to collect sponsors – once all of this money has been gathered we hope to have raised over £500 towards the Yusef Abubaker Memorial Fund.
