Battlefields visit 2005

In June 2005, a party of Harris pupils and staff undertook a visit to the World War One Battlefields of Belgium and Northern France. The first reason for the visit was educational - to enable pupils to achieve a greater understanding of the realities of trench warfare.  Certainly, responses from pupils and staff suggest that this purpose was more than successfully achieved.

However, the visit had a second purpose.  Sadly, many Harris Former Pupils lost their lives in the Great War and are buried in the many war cemeteries which, even today, bring home to visitors the enormity of the sacrifices made during those years.  As a respectful tribute, a simple memorial was laid at the last resting places of our FPs.  Fittingly, this feature begins with a photograph of a tribute laid by the school captains.

An extensive gallery of pictures of the visit is now available.  Since we have a remarkable number of photos of the visit, it has seemed wise to divide them into three main categories.  While these obviously overlap at times, this should hopefully make navigation of a large feature a little easier.
