HARRIS ACADEMY FORMER PUPILS' ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION AND RULES 1997 I. The Association shall be called the Harris Academy Former Pupils' Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) II. The objects of the Association shall be to keep alive the spirit and traditions of the school, to promote friendship among the former pupils of the school, to establish and maintain contact between the past and present pupils and to further the best interests of the school. III. Membership of the Association shall be open to all who have been pupils of the Harris Academy and to all past and present full-time members of staff. Spouses and partners of Members shall be eligible for membership. Persons not meeting these criteria may be admitted as members only by permission of the General Council. The Secretary of the Association shall maintain a register of members. Anyone accepting membership of the Association thereby accepts the Constitution and Rules. IV. The business of the Association shall be under the management of a General Council, which will include the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, the Treasurer and the Rector of the school (ex officio). The office bearers and not more than 12 ordinary members of the General Council shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting of the Association and shall be eligible for reelection. Honorary Presidents and Honorary Life Members may also be elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Council may co-opt any person for a particular purpose and for a specified period of time. V. The use to which the funds of the Association are put shall be the responsibility of the General Council. At the Annual General Meeting, an updated statement of the financial affairs of the Association for the preceding year, duly audited, shall be submitted for approval, and the President and Secretary shall also present reports for approval. VI. The Annual General Meeting of the Association shall be held annually on such date and in such place as the Council shall appoint and notice thereof shall be given to members at least 21 days prior to the meeting. VII. The Secretary shall at the request of the General Council or on a requisition signed by twenty or more members of the Association convene a Special General Meeting and shall give twenty one days' notice to each member. VIII. Ordinary meetings of the General Council shall be called at the discretion of the President, whom failing the Vice-President. IX. The President, whom failing the Vice-President, shall chair meetings of tile Association or General Council. In their absence, a member of the General Council shall be elected by the meeting to preside for that meeting. At all meetings, the chairman shall have a casting as well as a deliberate vote. There shall be no provision for proxy voting. X. Quora shall be as follows: at General Meetings, 12 members; at meetings of the General Council, 5 members. XI. The life membership fee shall be determined at each Annual General Meeting. XII. Any alteration in the Constitution and Rules shall be competent only at an Annual General Meeting of the Association and shall be effective only if supported by a majority forming no less than two thirds of those present and voting.
