remembrance 2001

On 12th November, members of the F.P. Association gathered at the school to participate in the annual Remembrance Ceremony.  For the first time, this was a joint ceremony involving both current and former pupils and representatives of every class from S1 to S6 joined with former pupils to pay their respects.

After a brief introduction by Gordon Laird, President of the F.P. Association, a prayer was said by the Rev. David Scott.  A former pupil and war veteran, Syd Scroggie, then recited his own verse
"A Soldier Remembers."

At 11.00 a.m., the assembly fell silent for two minutes  Two poppy wreaths were then laid at the war memorial.  On behalf of the F.P. Association, Syd Scroggie performed this solemn duty while the school captains, David Miller and Ailsa Deasley performed the same duty on behalf of the school.  Throughout the wreath-laying ceremony, a lament was played by former school captain, Nicholas Forbes.

Head Teacher, Mr James Thewliss spoke the traditional tribute "They shall not grow old."  The Last Post was played by Craig Brown and a lament played by piper Nicholas Forbes.

The ceremony concluded with a Benediction by Rev. David Scott.
