When you go home
Tell them of us, and say,
"For your tomorrow
We gave our today."

On Thursday, 11th November, the school held its traditional Armistice Day Ceremony.  As ever, the ceremony marked the close ties between pupils past and present, with representatives of every register class of the present school and a large number of Former Pupils in attendance.

After introductory remarks by Head Teacher Mr Thewliss, Mr Gordon Laird explained to the assembled guests that this year's ceremony had an extra significance since it would include the re-dedication of the Book of Remembrance to the Harris pupils who gave their lives during World War Two.  The Hymn "Eternal Father" was then sung, accompanied by the school orchestra, and a prayer was given by the Rev. David Scott.

The re-dedication of the Book of Remembrance then took place.  In a simple ceremony, the Book was restored to its traditional site by Mr Gordon Laird and an S1 pupil.  The poem "Remembrances" was then read out.

To the accompaniment of a Lament by piper Stewart Finlay, the wreath laying ceremony took place.  On behalf of Former Pupils, a wreath was laid by George Thomson, while captains Katie Scott and Simon Fraser performed the same duty on behalf of present day pupils.  Mr Thewliss then recited Binyon's tribute "They shall not grow old."

Two minutes silence was then observed, echoed by the same mark of respect in classrooms throughout the school.  A Lament was played followed by "The Last Post", performed by bugler Mark Buchanan.  The hymn "Be still my soul" was sung before the ceremony was ended with a Benediction by Rev. David Scott.
