On Monday, 30th
April, 2001 the first item on the agenda of the Former Pupils Association A.G.M.
was the official dedication of the new doors which now grace the main entrance
to the school.
In
a simple ceremony, Mr Thewliss spoke about the contribution made to the
ethos and character of the school by the many pupils who have passed through its
doors in over 100 years. He remarked that present-day pupils have often
been reminded that a successful school career meant "leaving a small part
of oneself behind" which helped to build upon the established traditions
and values of the school. He thanked the Former Pupils for their
contribution to building this tradition and, on a more immediate level, for
their generosity in helping to create a fitting entrance to a school of the 21st
century.
Mr Gordon Laird (President)
responded on behalf of the Former Pupils Association. He echoed the Head
Teacher's sentiments about the traditions and values which have underpinned the
school's success. He spoke of the school's past and of the hopes of all
Former Pupils that the values and traditions of the Harris would be maintained
and enhanced by future generations of pupils.
Mr Laird then performed the
task of revealing the brass plaque which formally acknowledges the generosity of
Former Pupils.

Pupils who attended the ceremony, standing in the new entrance hall to the
