Former pupils bid to turn back clock
People heading along Perth Road, Dundee, particularly Harris Academy former pupils, will have noticed that the attractive school clock has been in stop/go mode for the past couple of years. However, a group of FPs are attempting to raise money to remedy the clock's eccentricity and get it back to working order. The school's annual budget will not stretch to the repair cost of about £1000, says ex-pupil Ken Gordon. He adds that the Harris FP Association and the FP rugby club have been approached regarding a possible contribution, and the FPs hockey club and football club would also be welcomed on board. Old boys or girls here or abroad wishing to make a personal donation to help get the venerable timepiece back on track should send their cheque, made out to Harris Clock Restoration, to David Jack at 346 Blackness Road, Dundee, DD2 1SD. Boost for clock repair appeal
The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee are to meet a quarter of the costs of repairing the school clock at Harris Academy. A group of former pupils of the Dundee school are trying to raise the £1000 needed to ensure that the clock runs smoothly. Just over a week since the appeal was launched in The Courier £500 has been raised - £250 of which was donated by the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee. Anyone wanting to make a personal donation to help get the venerable timepiece back on track should send their cheque, made out to Harris Clock Restoration, to David Jack at 346 Blackness Road, Dundee, DD2 1SD.

Set to start ticking once more
The four sided clock on the roof of Harris Academy will soon be showing the correct time on all sides, thanks to the fund-raising efforts of a group of former pupils. The clock has been acting eccentrically for the past couple of years, but the potential repair bill wasn't met by the school's budget. The group of old boys and girls began fund-raising and within couple of months had raised £1500, with the rest of the bill being met by the city council and the school. Group member, Ken Gordon, said yesterday, "We got a total of £500 from the Harris FP Association and Harris FP Rugby Club and a further £250 from the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee. Another £250 came from individual former pupils who wanted to see the old clock ticking again."
