Courses Offered

Standard Grade Mathematics

The levels at which a pupil is presented depends upon progress during 3rd and 4th year.


Course Content

Each course consists of two elements:

Knowledge and Understanding

This provides pupils with a toolkit of techniques covering work on number, algebra, geometry and statistics.
Trigonometry is also covered in General and Credit courses.

Reasoning and Enquiry

This involves applying basic skills to solve problems.  The teaching of Mathematics is based on the recognition that problem solving lies at the heart of the subject.


Assessment

Regular class tests.

S3 Exam

Prelim examinations prior to the final exam, consisting of calculator and non-calculator papers.

Final exam also consisting of calculator and non-calculator papers.


Additional Information

Homework on a daily basis and longer exercises at the end of topics.

Calculators.  Every pupil should have a scientific calculator.  At Credit level, a graphics calculator is recommended.
