S2
Home Economics - Course Outline / Description S2
pupils attend Home Economics 1 period per week. What
will I be doing? S2
pupils will generally alternate between 1 theory based lesson and the
next week a practical lesson. Lessons are generally linked with the
practical lesson covering the theme of the previous week’s theory
lesson, although this is not always the case. Pupils are not required to
bring in food containers from home as these are supplied by the
department. The
course consists of the following units Unit
1 – Nutrition Unit 2 –
Design and Make a Food Product Unit
3 – Scottish Dietary Targets In
S2 pupils are becoming more involved in the areas of Nutrition, and a
Healthy Diet and they are also gaining a better understanding of
Scotland’s Dietary Targets. These areas are developed further in their
practical lessons, with exciting recipes which not only expand their
practical skills but also re-enforces the topics learned. Recipe
books can be purchased from the department. S2
undertake an exciting investigation of Italy. This investigation takes
them on a journey through Italy and its famous cuisine from its many
types of pasta to their numerous cheeses. This information is then used
by them to develop their own pasta dish where they will analyse,
investigate, plan, manufacture and evaluate their unique dish. Homework
is given at regular intervals throughout the course of S2. Homework
Books are supplied to all pupils at the beginning of the year and it is
their responsibility to look after them.
A copy of the Homework Book is also available on the website and
replacements can be purchased.
