Germany 1919-39
Teachers should be extremely cautious about allowing pupils to use search engines for such topics as “Hitler” or “The Nazis”. There are a large number of neo-Nazi sites on the web whose material is totally unsuitable for pupil access. The following sites are regarded as suitable for pupil use.
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERnazigermany.htm
As ever, the Spartacus site provides a wealth of information, usefully divided up into a series of sub-topics. Well worth a look.
http://www.thehistorychannel.co.uk/classroom/gcse/program.htm
The History Channel (produced in association with History Review) is a
useful starting point. It divides
its information into the categories “gcse” and “A-level”, although there
can be considerable overlap. It
includes useful sections on The Rise of the Nazis and a Biography of Hitler.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/modern/nazi/nazihtm.htm

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/modern/hitler/hitlehtm.htm
Part of the same series as above, this provides a good background to the weaknesses of Weimar and the way in which Hitler was able to gain power.
http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/Nazi%20Germany.htm
Another site that is full of information and easy to navigate.
S5 & 6
Here, the range of topics offered
makes it impossible to give more than a flavour of what is available. However, the web can be a very useful source when researching
extended essays e.g.
Women’s Rights
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk
This splendid site provides the link to The Emancipation of Women
1860-1920. This provides good
information on a large number of campaigners for Women’s Rights and goes far
beyond the normal few entries.

Misc.
http://www.rampantscotland.com/history.htm
If you are interested in Scottish history, this site is invaluable. It provides links to hundreds of sites relating to the history of Scotland from prehistory to the present day. It is very long but worth looking at - it is surprising what you can turn up.
The sites mentioned above are
only a fraction of those available on the web, but have been cited as being
worth entering into Favorites or Bookmarks in order that they can be accessed
by pupils without the necessity of typing in complicated URLs.
Many of these sites contain links to other relevant material and are just
the starting point for any detailed study.
