History Excursion to World War One Battlefields of Belgium and France

The History department is once again planning to run this highly educational school excursion to the Battlefields of Belgium and France.  The dates in mind are Sunday 14th to Friday 19th June 2009.  Expressions of interest have already been requested from Standard Grade pupils.  This will be the third time the school has run this trip and past experience has demonstrated how much the participants value the whole experience.

Pictures of previous trips can still be seen on the school website under the Archive Section of this enjoyable experience

Black Watch Visit/Battlefields Trip

On Wednesday 25th April, 2007 the History Department was very fortunate in being visited by the representatives of the Black Watch Museum. S3 pupils were given a talk about the Black Watch and a slide show demonstrated the impact of World War One on Dundee and in particular the contribution of pupils from Harris Academy. All pupils and staff involved found this very informative and most enjoyable. The pupils particularly enjoyed the fact they were given a unique opportunity to see and handle items of uniform and even weaponry from the period.

The pupils involved were a credit to the school and the Black Watch commented on their excellent behaviour and manners.

Photos can be seen on the school website!

About forty S3 – S6 pupils are about to embark on another WW1 Battlefields educational excursion to Belgium/France. This proved a great success in 2005 with all those participating finding this a moving and rewarding experience.  We look forward to another successful trip!!
