October 2008 Advanced
Higher Field Trip The
Advanced Higher Geography Fieldtrip took place recently from 15th
to 17th September, at Kindrogan Field Studies Centre in Enochdhu, Perthshire.
Pupils from different schools around the country got together to learn
about various Geographical Methods and Techniques which are an important
part of the Advanced Higher Geography course. Despite the wet weather, the
trip was a great success, and the pupils worked on techniques such as soil
sampling, vegetation studies, river measurements, and geomorphological
mapping. No time was wasted at all, and they even spent the evenings
processing the data they collected and learning how to carry out
statistical tests! The Geography Department would like to say thank-you to
the PTPA for kindly making a contribution to the cost of this trip. Grand
Canyon Adventure 2009 This
term saw the launch of an exciting new trip for Harris Academy pupils. The
Grand Canyon Adventure is a geographical tour of the South-Western USA,
allowing pupils to experience the fantastic landscapes of the Grand
Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Red Rock Country, as well as
the cities of Las Vegas and Phoenix. The response from pupils was
overwhelming, and there has been a great deal of excitement over this
opportunity, but unfortunately we only had a limited number of places. 40
pupils and 5 staff will therefore be travelling to the USA on 22nd
October 2009 to begin their 9 day tour. Watch this space next year to find
out how they get on!
