Course Content
Advanced Higher: - Compulsory Dissertation & 2 of Creative Writing, Literature & Reading of the Media Units.
For all S5 courses:
Unit 1 - Language (Close Reading) & Writing
Unit 2 - Literature (Critical Essays & Textual Analysis)
Unit 3 - Personal Study
Assessment
Unit 1 main outcome is Close Reading (internal with 50% required to pass) which also forms paper 1 of the examination. One piece of Writing must also be passed.
Unit 2 outcome is one Textual Analysis. Examination for Higher and Intermediate 2 consists of two Critical Essays, covering two genres, one of which may be Scottish. Intermediate 1 candidates answer one Critical Essay.
Unit 3 outcome is: Personal Study (assessed internally on a pass/fail basis) maximum length 1800 words, with no minimum.
Advanced Higher coursework = Dissertation + Creative Writing.
Additional Information
At all levels, the examination is worth 100% of the final
mark.
Intermediate 1 examination consists of Close Reading and one Critical Essay.
Advanced Higher examination consists of 1 Critical Essay.
