Careers Scotland Competition

|
On
the 25th February Harris Academy entered a team of nine sixth year
Business Management pupils (Beth Allan, Clare Durajczyk, Michael Barker,
Paul Weyers, Darryl Gowans, Nicola Rubczak, Ailish Clark, Jenna Tawse
and Stacy Scott) into the Careers Scotland Competition held at the Caird
Hall. The
task was derived from the phrase "Necessity is the mother of
convention", assigning us to conceptualise a product or service
which overcame one of those daily annoyances in our lives. Our entry was
a parking system that informed drivers where the free spaces were,
eradicating the time spent hunting around a large parking facility. There
were a number of schools competing, from all over the north of Scotland,
who came up with some very innovative ideas, confirming that the
opposition was very strong. Our team had a creative idea, but with a
limited time factor and a presentation to prepare we thought our chances
of winning were slim. However, we were all proved wrong when we were
awarded first prize, beating over 10 other teams to secure our victory.
This has qualified us for the national final through in Edinburgh, where
there will be a satellite link up with Norway, who are also carrying out
a similar final. Clare Durajczyk
