Course Content

Higher Grade Art & Design and Higher Grade Art & Design – Intermediate 2: Both these courses are divided into three inter-related areas – Expressive Activity, Design Activity and Art & Design Studies.  In Expressive Activity, pupils investigate a theme and produce a two or three dimensional form which reflects and communicates personal thoughts, feelings and ideas.  In Design Activity, pupils investigate and research a “Design Brief” and present an appropriate and effective solution.  In Art & Design Studies, pupils undertake two investigations of the areas of the visual arts and design which are of personal relevance to the candidates and their practical work.  At least one of these studies must deal with a contemporary context.

Advanced Higher: There are two options at Advanced Higher: “Art & Design Enquiry” and “Art & Design Research and Appreciation”.   (The Art & Design Enquiry course is recommended to pupils who intend undertaking further study in Art & Design at Further or Higher Education).  The “Art & Design Research and Appreciation” course is undertaken as a research medium with a written dissertation as its outcome.   (The Art & Design Research and Appreciation course is recommended to pupils who intend undertaking further study in Fine Art or History of Art at Higher Education).
