Intro Band:
What can only be said about
this Intro is that it encapsulated the light hearted theme and
atmosphere of Gigamundo. The slow, heavy metal sounding build up
combined with increasing lighting by John Steel gave the impression
of a loud death-metal style intro, this was ironically contrasted by
the sudden switch into A little Respect by Rock/Poppers
Wheatus.
The song was played
seamlessly and followed into a funky drum solo by Mark Keiller. Ross
Davies playing a re-sampling of the riff from Day Tripper by the
Beatles, which allowed host for the night, Lee Kehrer, to give a run
down of the nights events.
Basically a good old
fashioned sing-song which got everyone in the mood and gave the 3 a
chance to show off there skills on their respective instruments.
The DJ:
Many thanks go
to Aido for filling in the gaps between the bands with some really
catchy and impressively mixed tunes. It’s unfortunate he didn’t
have more time to play and show off his obvious skills but the
snippets we did get of him were thoroughly enjoyable and well
appreciated.
Blind Sight:
A new young band playing
their first ever Gig to a packed audience. Considering the obvious
pressures of being newbies Blind Sight pulled off a respectable
performance, which has surely gained them a lot of admiration and
fans, as well as respect. Their rendition of Smells Like Teen
Spirit by Nirvana was impressive to say the least and was well
received by the 180 strong crowd. They followed this with other
covers including Hitchin a Ride by punk rockers Green Day and
Dammit by Blink 182.
The band seem to have gelled
very quickly and the only way is up for these guys who were made up
of four young guys from 3rd year, Gavin Wares (Bass/Vocals), Dean
Kehrer (Drums), Mike Mulreany (Lead Guitar), John Brady (Rhythm
Guitar). They played brilliantly as a band and as individuals,
playing way beyond many peoples expectations!
Stitchboy:
These
bright, lively and entertaining guys gave the Gig a re-injection of
bouncy sounding music, which the crowd all appreciated. Singer Finn
got off to a shaky start probably due to nerves but recovered well
and sang perfectly with a unique yet gallagheresque sounding
voice.
Robert Simpson (guitar), Iain
McDonald (guitar), Iain Carmichael (drums) and Iain Raeburn (bass)
all played well and like Blind Sight, they seem to have gelled well
with each other into a good sounding band. Twist and Shout by
the Beatles was the highlight of their set and was played with a
clarity and rhythmic quality.
Definitely a band with good
future prospects and will undoubtedly feature in later gigs in the
Harris. They all came across as a band that love playing and had a
good interaction with the crowd, which enhanced their performance a
lot.
Lush:
The trio of Alan Stanners,
Jordan Palmer, Seonaid Lafferty and John Buchanan played with energy
and a lot of fun. Each member has been playing individually for a
long time, and this was plain to see and hear as they went about
playing a set of rocking covers of bands such as The Strokes. After
speaking to the band before hand I could tell that they were all
nervous after being together for just over a month but they cleared
this barrier with ease and really got the crowd going without being
cocky about their skills.
Alan and Jordan, with past
band experience, came across as accomplished musicians who continue
to impress. You could hardly tell it was Seonaid's first taste of
the 'live experience' and she sang with a profound clarity in her
voice, which really suited the genre of music they were playing.
John Buchanan also played the bass suitably. With them all being in
5th Year it almost certain they have a few school gigs to perform at
yet and this is definitely good news for future audiences, Lush are
a great sounding band.
